History

Welcome to Goodan Ranch and Sycamore Canyon.

Take a journey through the history of the local area.

Heading south along Sycamore Canyon Road from Garden Road, you leave the busy world of everyday lives and find an oasis of history.

Take a walk through coast live oak canopies and olive trees and find yourself walking through the vanished community of Stowe.    Learn about the changes in this part of our county that led to the closing of the school in 1903 and the Post Office in 1905.

Observe the many habitats that provide homes and resources for wildlife.    Appreciate the 1700 acres of Sycamore Canyon Open Space that border the 325 acre Goodan Ranch.

Understand how the joint efforts of Poway, Santee, Lakeside, the California Department of Fish and Game and the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation have preserved this area for solitude, recreation and education.

Leave Goodan Ranch a changed person.
